This model rejected trade-based model/trade unions: trade unions (craft) Trade-based model: worker works at the union rate depending on what town they go to. The law discourages trade unions today: hiring hall. To control the trade, all hiring must be done through a hiring hall. Employee hired at a hiring hall will work at the union rate, under union conditions. Union would get control of hiring on the port, then all the removal of good from the ship would be the hiring process. Powerful, especially in 50s and 60s, (if they can get established) Can be done over the internet now: large local. Locals deciding, they don"t want to be with small organizations. Food and commercial workers have large locals representing them.
