Document Summary

Grievance: is a complaint under a collective agreement. Basic procedures: the collective agreement in all cases will name a few early steps or procedures. The first is that the grievance must be stated in writing and there needs to be something to negotiate. In all collective agreements there will be a series of steps that need to be taken, labour law does not dictate what these steps need to be but the labour board will require some form of steps. For the most part, grievances are employee driven as employers have management rights. Written grievance: this goes to the immediate supervisor. This is creating a chance for issues to be solved on ground level rather than going to the highest levels of the union and company for every issue. It is not an option for employers to do nothing, law wants to prevent this. Window for response from management (15 days usually)
