Document Summary
Hormones: are signaling molecules secreted into the bloodstream by endocrine glands. Steroids: testosterone is a group of steroids called androgens, estrogen is a group of estradiol and progesterone is a group of progestins. Peptides: are protein based: gonadotropins (fsh, lh, hcg, other (prolactin, growth hormone, inhibin, oxytocin, amh) Monoamines: multiple monoamines (single + amine building block); smaller versions of peptide hormones. Adrenal glands are located on top of the kidneys. The adrenal cortex refers to the outer portion of the adrenal gland. Through the use of enzymes these molecules get cleaved creating shorter molecules. Cholesterol is created from the diet or naturally in the body. The fact that cholesterol can pass from mother to fetus is a potential threat due to mimics that are harmful. Become water soluble when excreted but has the capability to return to fat soluble substances. Hormones have an affect on the body for a longer period of time and they remain in the body.
