Document Summary

Females select for males with good genes. Sometimes females also choose for less important genes like song complexity and peacock tails (which decrease their survival) Difficulty: extreme mail traits seem to reduce male survival. The medium tail is widely spread because high survival (natural) and sexual selection. Assume that there are 2 gene loci in all individuals (males and females: gene 1 codes for a certain male trait, for example bright color, gene 2 codes for preference towards bright male color. All individuals have these loci but there is heritable individual variation. The frequency of the colorful male increases relative to the males without the gene. The females choose the male with extreme version of gene p therefore they have gene p also. In this process there is no negative feedback. Meaning the long tail males increase in frequency. The long tail is a disadvantage after a certain length. Female choice and male survival work against each other.
