Monday march 19, 2018: global burden of infectious diseases. Until recently, the most important contributor to human mortality: aids, tb, malaria, measles. Some of these diseases have an important impact on children, like diarrhea. What percentage of all deaths are due to infectious diseases occur in sub-saharan. Affects children in africa and southeast asia and even in s. america. Has to do with sanitation, clean and safe water access, and disposal of wastes. This leads to a significant burden in children. In north america, we have lyme disease (found in hamilton), west nile fever, and cryptosporidiosis. There is a potential for these diseases to spread elsewhere when they emerge. With improvement in linear standards, we have increased the wealth of populations through vaccinations. Most of the growth has happened in emerging economies (developing countries) More people that can be exposed to infectious diseases in urban areas.
