Phonology of each language is specific to that language. Habituation technique to observe whether they notice a difference or not suck on bottle to measure how hard they suck when they are interested in something . Hard > two phoneme contrasts in the second language that map on to a single phoneme category in the learners native language. Theory easy > english doesnt have lateral fricatives but english does have many fricatives that contrast in their voicing 95% correct. Theory easy > english doesnt have any clicks at all so they should be able to pay attention to the phonetic differences without interference from english phonology 80% correct. 65% correct theory hard > because english listeners only have one phoneme category for voiced bilibial stops, the implosive is treated as an allophone of that phoneme.
