Two sides of word form of word and meaning of word. Word: something that links a given form with a given meaning. Words are free; can appear in isolation (on their own) ex: what are you doing? cooking. ; words are moveable ex: soup is delicious, james is making soup; words are inseparable (cannot be broken up) ex: james cooked some carrots > s cannot interrupt the word carrot car s ot vegetable peeler > vegetables peelers. Bound morphemes: can only appear when attached to something else ex: ed, s > baked, bananas. Polymorpheme: made up more than one morpheme . Given morepheme might have more than one allomorph ex: a an similar but have same meaning.
