MEDRADSC 3I03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Infrahyoid Muscles, Vertebra, Levator Scapulae Muscle
Document Summary
Margins seem to blend together in cross-section images. 3 overlapping constrictors, outmost of the pharynx: superior, inferior, middle. Elevate the pharynx and larynx during swallowing and speaking. Most medial and largest ext. muscle of the tongue (if coronal, midline slice, largest is this) Board straplike muscle, orig. on the sternum and clavicle. Function: turns the head side to side, flex the neck. Insets in the mastoid tip of temporal bone. Other anterior triangle muscles = muscles of the thorat: two categories: suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscle groups. Forms the base of the tongue, a lot of the muscles attach to it. Inf. to the mandible: hyoid bone is floating very anteriorly. Connect hyoid bone to temporal bone and mandible. Elevates the hyoid, floor of mouth and tongue for swallowing and speaking. Act in the opposite fashion, depress the hyoid bone, Scalene muscle group (anterior, middle and posterior scalene muscles) Orginates from occipital bone and spinous processes of c7-t12.
