Digital tech are a key feature of contemporary daily life & they profoundly shape how we live. Information society: society where the creation, distribution, manipulation & use of info is a driving force in politics, economics & culture, all factors are part of life; technology used in creative & productive ways. Knowledge society: focuses on purely economics; knowledge as a commodity (bought or sold), about economic exploitation of knowledge. Digital citizens: people who participates in an info society (implies they have means to do so), my generation, idea people have access to these means, generational. Network society: a way to describe how the proliferation (rapid spread) of communication tech. & rapid spread of information, term used by jan van dijk (1991) & taken up by manual castells in rise of the network society", for castells, networks are a fundamental social unit of our era.
