Music: 1750 (bach died in 1750) - 1800 age of enlightenment dominated by mozart(1756-1791) and haydn (1732-1809) other famous in 18th century: c. p. e. Excessive ornamentation gave way to classical ideals of balance and clarity (gothic churches very intricate gave way to clean lines and pillars and whatnot) Term classical comes from greek/roman antiquity (800bc - 600ad). Haydn"s string quartet in c major (chapter 20) musical careers changed: more independence e. g. Mozart"s piano concerto in a: mozart was a poor guy, buried somewhere unmarked, at broke. Opera plots became more realistic and rebellious e. g. Haydn was employed by a prince of europe (rich) and at the end of his life he broke off and became an independent musician.
