People who controlled the pop music industry didn"t think that music targeting the black audiances was all that interesting . Because hill billy was the product of the rural south, and the north looks down on the south, this wasn"t music that north rich white middle class people would be all that interested in. Sheet music sells over 5 000 000 copies (record industry does not yet exist) This was the first hit song , but there was nothing interesting about it it was just a typical parlor song of the late 1800"s. There were enough people living together in one place to make the hit possible. (think, you don"t have to go town to town to sell sheet music, you can put 100 copies in one store and sell them all)
