End of 1940"s race music became rhythm and blues (r&b) Hillbilly new name consists of a two different styles of music (country, blue grass(extension of country music that comes from the south of america. (western and country music got combined) Ray charles and gospel music seen as secular music; all about physical participation. Muddy waters 1913-1983: born in mississippi, played guitar and harmonica, emulated robert johnson, the blues went through another stage aka electric blues. The music of the country blues(robert johnson) brought to an urban area and electrified. Given a bigger band: moved to chicago, early 1940s, hooks up with blues community and becomes a moderate player, switches to electric guitar 1945, 1946, records for aristocrat records( which later became chess records) Chess records: had an impact on what happened in the music industry.
