Document Summary

Metal imagery/themes: some hard rock, increasingly metal in the 80"s, drew on a number of different themes that played into this idea of empowerment, mystery, mythology, fantasy, history, these themes create a mythological, new world. This creates a different world to escape the one you"re in (dead end, boring). Creating a fantastic world through music is another source of empowerment: led zeppelin"s 4th record, it is untitled. Nothing on the spine or info on the album jacket. You had to know it was a new led zeppelin record. Imagery on the album: the front: there is a little old man carrying sticks. Inside the jacket: a figure at the top of the mountain shining a light, at the bottom, a little medieval o country. Contrasted by a black urban, suburban landscape on the back side of the album o city. There is a person running away from the city towards the mountain thing: some of the images have spiritual significance.
