Music therapy has been self regulated profession in canada since 1974. There is research journal (canadian music therapy journal) Musictherapy. ca : national professional website for canada. Not all provinces, but most have a provincial association for music therapists (mtao is for ontario) It is the national association (camt) that self-regulates the profession of music therapy in canada: self regulate: need to go through process and standards of camt. One difference in ontario is that college of registered psychotherapists of ontario; opened april 2015: government regulating body that regulates act of psychotherapy. Depending on area music therapy works in, using psychotherapy. Any professional, councillor, drama therapist, any individual using act of psychotherapy need to be recognised by crpo to practice. Music therapists work in hospital, physical rehabilitation, in schools, special ed, private clinics, long-term care facilities. In canada, specifically on, most music therapists work in private practice (own business)
