Lecture 6: improvising as an intervention + mt & asd. What is improvisation: creating music that has not been created before, models that implement improvising: free improvisation model, analytic oriented music therapy, nordoff-robbins, eclectic approach. Free improvisation & playing rules: to make it less daunting, example: playing only on the black key of the piano (positive musical feedback rather than clashing sounds on the white keys) Technique of mirroring: music therapist does the same thing as the client at the same time, allows the client to see themselves in the therapist, empathic. Grounding: creating a musical anchor for the client. Holding: musical anchor & container, container: strong patterned music which provides a structure for musical "chaos, more bit of structure compared to grounding. Dialoguing: musical conversation, client self expresses, back & forth continue. What is autism spectrum disorder: autism is a pervasive developmental disability that affects a person"s ability to communicate and interact with others.
