Music 2mt3 lecture 2 - theoretical foundations of music therapy. Don"t need to memorize long list of who would be referred to music therapy. Has the capacity to change our perception and experiences. Don"t have to be sick to engage in music. Pathway for music is the same as pain: if its engaging in music then pain pathway will be lessened, act as distraction for pain. Doesn"t only evoke positive memories/feelings but can equally evoke negative memories/feelings and when someone is in a vulnerable state they have to be careful. Intention: meet the healthcare goals of the client (intent) Intent of entertainer is to please the crowd (to entertain) Individual is referred to music therapy and assessment is done. All diagnoses can be referred to music therapy. Musicians (rcm trained) usually have more barriers to overcome: no rules in music therapy, and this can be very difficult for musicians.
