Patient will spend 4. 5 months in icu due to severe case of guillain-barre syndrome. Patient is awake and entirely aware of what is going on. I listened to a complete football game on the radio while i was charted as being comatose . Released to a medial floor for another 7 months. Patient goes around to different hospitals and talks with healthcare executives describing experiences of critical-care patients. Doctor doesn"t talk directly to the patient. Doctor asks the nurse if the patient slept well. Nurse tells doctor she slept well, patient did not, in her experience. Her husband helped her create a way to communicate through blinking; he has taught it to her healthcare providers, but they do not use it. When she had to be changed, the nurse got distracted and went to speak with another nurse, leaving her uncovered and exposed to the floor for 45 minutes.
