Conservative religious beliefs and isolation from the outside world are central features of this. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a sample of 15 oom women to explore their perceptions of health in their place. Aged bw 23-64 years, mean = 49. 7 years. In a short questionnaire, participants provided demographic information as well as information on their health status. Due to cultural beliefs, some husbands accompanied their wives during the interviews. Participants had not attained education higher than grade 8.
