Capable decision someone is capable is understanding the moral issue they"re faced with, and able to make a rational decision. Doctors must often engage with their patients in settings where a patients rational faculties might be compromised competent to make their own medical decisions: e. g. There is very little agreement for the proper terms under which we should deny someone"s competency. Be in possession of a set of personal values: they must have some set goals or ideals that they"re trying to, someone who makes their decisions with an aim in mind realize through their decisions. Have the ability to reason and deliberate: they will be able to think reflectively about their medical decisions. We run the risk of (i) preventing a competent person from participating in their treatment decisions, and we run the risk of (ii) failing to protect an incompetent person from the harmful effects of a bad decision.
