Document Summary

Life after death: gods are unconcerned with human a airs, gods are nothing to fear. In fact, they are a model for human happiness. Everything good/bad in life depends on sensual experience, and since there are no senses in death, there"s no good/bad about it. Death is only present when we don"t exist. As long as you exist, you aren"t dead. There"s no you to be harmed by death. Atomism was ignored during time of aristotle; resurrected by epicurus. We need to know nature, not just our own souls. Epicurus rejects in nity because it restricts atomic size; always believes atoms are subvisible. Di erences from democritus: limit on atomic shape, internal atomic structure, the swerve. Swerve occurs by chance; means it will hit another atom, which will swerve, lots of e ects. Epicurus doesn"t buy this because of his empirical observations.
