Document Summary
By noticing boundaries, we notice what they include and exclude (and these are changeable) Our account of morality also provides a way to deal respectfully with others, we must honour what others are doing. Morality-politics boundary: in the west, understand as 2 independent concepts that have different aims. Morality: considerations as to what one thinks is important to do, in what ways, and how to conduct one"s self with others basic approval or disapproval. Politics: realm in which resources are allocated, public order maintained and disputes resolved. Because of this understanding of morality and politics as separate, we have one of 2 views: Morality-first view: gives supremacy to moral principles, and suggests that politics should conform to moral principles. E. g. laws should be based on morals (abortion, etc) Politics-first view: moral principles are important in some domains, but they are irrelevant in political domain. E. g. end justify the means (excess airport security, etc)
