Document Summary

Ensures that groups are equivalent on the matching variable prior to introduction of the iv; each participant is then assigned randomly to one of the conditions. Matching variable can be age, intelligence, twins, etc. One level of iv presented then measure dv, then present another level and measure dv; can be done in one day or separate days. Concurrent measures design- present all levels of the iv before taking a measure of dv. Easier to find significant effects because there is less extraneous variation, and larger n per cell. Set up requires less time because set up only needs to occur once instead once per level. Good when you have long instructions because you only need to give instructions once instead of once per level or if you have long training requirements. If you are interested in small populations this is the best design (ex. schizophrenia or other special populations)
