We re in an era where we re constantly fighting! This position has tremendous authority associated with it, pacifies disagreements, manages the discourse, and we award it for it. We bound ourselves very tightly in a power structure. Discourse is war, and we re better off just having a war. You need to have a definition of what it is. Potter-stuart (us supreme court judge): wouldn t define obscenity, because it s not possible to define it. We have given up the act of defining, either by letting one individual tell us, or by measuring it against community morals. Tight connection between knowing what something is and the structures of power in a society. This point is the legacy of kingship in our world. We want a space that calms the rest of the discourse. The job of political theory is to cut off the king s head. The belief in the neutral space needs to be removed.
