Us basically only western democracy with only two parties. Usually the parties alternate being divided - now it"s the republicans, in teh 70s/80s it was democrats. Democrats: andrew jackson founded part as organized political party. Jackson and friends realized by end of 1820s that they needed to move into the democrats system. Idea section is in chapter 2: america is an idea, it"s built on ideas/values. National conventions held summer of election years: announce national candidate, and as a part of it, the parties create a platform to be ran on, paul ryan 2016 speech basically what he had on the outline. Washington is different than in canada: 5 democrats - up for reelection in november, in states that. Am never a colonial power, but picked up islands. It was controversial: woodrow wilson brought america to world. Wwi was a bad war, wwii was the good war - in that americans knew what they were fighting for.
