The discussant role is to gaud discussion out of the audience. End by proposing 2 - 3 questions to pursue in light of the reaction. No part of grade in hands of other and reactions, interested in engagement and themselves. Questions are often a great way to get discussion started. Briefly outline the main thrust of the argument. Do not do handouts; powerpoints and etc. Thinking through these issues in only 1000 words! Address all 5 of the definitions and state the reason why one is better than the rest. All definitions have right and wrong things. Topics need to be developed with course instruction. Point of the paper is to connect issues across weeks! Research paper can have items drawn from course material. Need to make point heard in a way that is transparent to someone else. We need to articulate a convincing argument. In a paper the reader gets the last word.
