By the 1970s it was apparent that at least some authoritarian states - former high growth states - were stagnating economically. The lack of economic success undermined the legitimacy of these regimes. Monday, february 6, 2017: economic growth created the social conditions for regime change in other authoritarian states. At the same time, other market-based authoritarian states experienced sustained economic growth.
