The bar to which all societies should aspire. A political system where power lies in the hands of people. The political reality: democracy is historically, institutionally, and culturally varied. Democracy depends, in an practice, it means power lies in the hands of people and in theory, it"s different. Democracy comes from the greek demos (people) and kratos (rule) But the lived reality of democracy is historically, institutionally, and culturally varied. In this lecture we will focus on two forms: direct democracy and indirect democracy examine their justifications and explore their particular institutional structures. A political system where there are no specialized distinctions between governors and governed determining public laws, rules, and regulations (rather than electing someone else to make these decisions)
