He says modern freedom is different than ancient freedom. *difference between modern day freedom and ancient freedom: in ancient freedom, if the city restrict what you wanna do, that is okay because ur freedom is the freedom of the city. Modern freedom focuses on individual freedom and liberty. (page 8) ostracism and the rome censor made everyone"s citizenship being more protective. Constant (page 17) > representation is good and necessary because the most important thing is private liberty. You have to be modern but you should keep an eye on those who are governing. He recognizes that modern liberty is gonna make you care more about yourself which is gonna make the government will take advantage of whats ought to be yours.
