Study of how we change/ fail to change over time. Doesn"t always involve change, sometimes you stay the same but things are still happening. Developmental psychologists study perception, cognition, social cognition, locomotion, Goals: describe (what"s happening, visual acuity changing in first 2 years of life) Ie. sesame street, nutritious meals (for impoverished kids) = better performance. Just bc we haven"t grown, doesn"t mean the development has stopped. Autism results when too many synapses (no pruning) Tree example: graduating, slowly but surely, adding stuff (continuity) Experience = primary thing that causes us to develop.
