PSYCH 2AA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Behavioural Genetics, Kk Mzt Skopje, Epigenetics
Document Summary
Allows you to collect actual developmental data in short amount of time. Every year of testing, cross-sectional comparisons can be made. Benefits of longitudinal design but less cost, time. Can compare different cohorts at same ages. If similar age effect (ie. development) Can compare different cohorts" patterns of development across time. Allows you to investigate development as it happened in front of you. Intense observation/ recruiting children at a time when developmental change is expected to occur. Pro: can watch development as it occurs. Maybe they wouldn"t develop in the same way if it wasn"t in a lab, doing the same thing over and over. Many design choices, all with pros and cons. Study tip: define each term, outline its pros and cons, propose your own study using each design. Hypothesis: exposure to violent video games as a kid will make a violent adult. Can"t make kids play video games to see if they"ll turn into a psychopath.
