November 28 , 2012 Psych 2B03: Theories of Personality Biological Bases of Personality (6) SATSA - allowed for number of different calculations - older subjects - high estimates of heritability, and dramatic differences between DZ and MZ SATSA variances - heritability estimates calculated using classic twin data are overestimates, typical heritability coefficient is .5 - in other studies using non twin studies, but family studies instead, the estimates of heritability were between .25 and .3 - SATSA study came to the conclusion that the estimate is somewhere in the neighbourhood of .3 - Heritability coefficient isn’t about any individual, only takes about where the variation in the population comes from, 30% variable only applies to this sample, not a constant - Comes primarily from non-shared environment and error - Non-shared environment is greater than the sum of genetics and shared environment - One of the biggest suprises - What are th
