Document Summary

Psych 2e03 lecture 27 object and face perception. Dorsal stream: where pathway: motion, coordinating movement, location, spatial relationships. Ventral stream: what pathway: object, detail, shape, structure, colour, composition. What sensory modality is also processed in the superior temporal sulcus: auditory. Agnosia: an inability to recognize the structure and form of objects. Selective damage to ventral stream, to different areas causes different perceptual deficits. A lot of different types of agnosia: 2 examples we are gonna talk about are apperceptive and associative agnosia. Apperceptive agnosia: analysis of structural information. Injury and are unable to match or copy simple object shapes. Interpretation of structural information: patients able to very accurately copy and match objects but unable to assign identify to them. Indicating that different brain areas (specifically within ventral stream) are responsible for analysis and interpretation of structural information. Recording different perceptual experiences from their day to day lives. Introspectionists could not agree on the data they collected, all had conflicting views.
