Document Summary
Aristippus: hedonism does not include only sexual pleasure, but intellectual as well. Freud: sex and aggression, love and work. Aristotle: life of intellectual and moral virtue. Process theories see happiness as the result of completion of another activity. Subjective well-being is a theory created by ed diener. Subjective well-being has two components: affect: emotion, how happy a person feels (positive) and how sad a person feels (negative). People can be high in both positive and negative affect because they are independent of one another: life satisfaction: cognition, how satisfied an individual is in the different aspects of life (e. g. work, love, relationships) Affect can be measured using the 20-item panas positive and negative affect scale. The new version of the panas, the panas-x contains 60 items belonging to 11 scales based on factor analysis (positive emotion, negative emotion, other emotion) Some people are generally not very happy. The satisfaction with life scale measures life satisfaction.
