If mother is undernourished, the baby"s brain or fat remains unaffected however the skeletal muscle, kidneys, liver, and pancreas may be undersized. Interim summary: human brain is larger than expected, given our body size, the human brain is a voracious consumer of energy. It is so expensive, that the gut and muscle mass are smaller than respected. Insulin resistance will develop in selected tissues heart, liver, reproductive organs, the spline: glucose that is travelling through the blood stream is not sucked up by the organs. How is insulin resistance triggered: during infection, cytokines trigger insulin resistance, the signalling power of insulin is decreased in those tissues. Inhibit insulin receptors on selected tissues: less glucose is taken from the bloodstream.
