Lecture 3a- introduction to the arts: neuroaesthetics. So the major issue is aesthetics meaning beauty rather than anything else (simple attraction) The cognitive focus was perception only, how they come to be. How we are creative, was not considered: the arts are about a lot more than just aesthetics. In fact, aesthetics may be the least art-specific component of the arts. Our aesthetic system probably originated from appraisal of food sources and mates, not the arts. In this course we will discuss all of the arts in their collectivity. We want to discuss cross cultural arts, instead of just the european style, how are they created and expressed throughout the world. (cid:498)art modules(cid:499), the real neurocognitive specificity of the arts. Think about production as much as perception, including creativity: an object (work of art) For example a paining, a song or a book. Four major meanings of the concept of (cid:498)art(cid:499: an indicator of creativity or craftsmanship (cid:523)(cid:498)techne(cid:499)-skillfulness or craftsmanship)
