Fewer individuals, those that managed to survive were mostly larger billed birds that could crack the harder seeds let on the island. Short term change to make it more suitable to its environment. Grants were able to see two examples of evoluion. 1982 another species, large ground inch, arrived on daphne (2 males and 3 females established a breeding populaion) El nino lots of food, birds did well. Large ground inch did very well and had over 100 of the birds on the island by the ime the second selecive episode occurred. Another bad drought, seed composiion changed and birds died. Animals that did survive now had smaller than average beaks. Reasons this happened was because of a compeitor now the large ground inch could outcompete the medium ground inches to get the larger seeds. Larger medium ground inches were unable to get the seeds from the large ground inches. Smaller ground inches don"t even try to crack larger seeds.
