Female guppies like males with orange on their body. Guppies live in streams or rivers where orange fruit fall. Mutaions that make males orange may atract females. Platyish males have ordinary tails, but swordtails have an elongated in into a sword-like structure. Diferent species have diferent lengths and diferent colours. Absent from platyish, but female platyish ind the swords sexy. By cuing swords and placing them on platyish, females went nuts (pre-exising bias?) There is viability selecion on female sensory system (females may be atracted to something that doesn"t iniially exist) Mutaion produces a small amount of display, and those males with mutaions get to exploit females. Males convince females to mate with them, causing female itness to decline. Males have to exaggerate trait to get over the threshold to mate with females. Cycles of trait exaggeraion even though it may not be iniially beneicial for females to mate with them.
