Document Summary

The classification system for diagnosing various psychological disorders. Different models that are used to explain and treat abnormal behaviour. This is no single definition of abnormal behaviour that is agreed upon by everyone. Most definitions refer to some component of the behaviour that are characteristic of an abnormality: deviance, distress, dysfunction, danger. Having any on of these d"s alone doesn"t necessarily mean that the person is suffering from a psychological disorder. Deviance having thoughts or emotions that according to cultural norms, fall outside the realm of what is considered normal. What is abnormal is gauged against what most individuals in a specific culture are doing, rather than the behaviour itself. A behaviour that is deviant is not necessarily psychologically abnormal. If you insisted to everyone that voices were commanding you to bring these strange items, most people would consider this deviant behaviour to be psychologically abnormal. Distress intense negative feelings, such as anxiety, sadness or despair.
