Language is regulated by the rules of grammar. Language is regular, meaning that it is governed by rules and grammar. A sentence can be reorganized and still retain meaning because of a system of rules details how each word fits with the ones around it. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The lazy dog was jumped over by the quick brown fox. Words in a language arbitrarily represent what they mean language is arbitrary meaning that a specific sound that is connected to a concept is completely arbitrary. Cat has nothing that indicates it refers to a furry animal with whiskers and a tail. There is are limitless ways to combine words to describe objects, situations and actions. The whorf-sapir hypothesis: language influences our thoughts and the way we perceive and experience the world. "the whorf- sapir hypothesis states that our interaction with the world is modulated by the language we use.
