Document Summary

The brain is made up of 100 billion neurons. Typical cortical neuron can have between 1 and 10,000 connections with other neurons. One approach of the brain is separating mental processes from physical processes of the brain. In descarte"s dualist framework the mind was seen as a separate entity existing outside of our biology yet in control of our actions and thoughts. Neuroscience can be studied alongside psychology at multiple levels. Function of the neuron is the fundamental building block of the nervous system. Some secrete hormones others form protective barriers such as skin. Others contract and form the muscles in your body. Neurons fall into the category of cells specialized for communication. Receptive zone: designed to receive signal from other neurons and is made up of the dendrites branching out from the cell body. Begins with cell body which contains vital organelles that keep cell functioning. Projection are called dendrites which stretch and branch like a tree.
