Many challenges arise when treating psychological disorders: validity of diagnosis, stigmas related to disorders, choice among treatment options. 5 stages of grief universal path for dealing with death: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. Underlying theory cannot be disproved: behaviourist. Disorders are the external overt behaviours themselves observable behaviour is the actual problem. Focusing only on behaviour not deeper mechanisms. Disorders result from maladaptive selection and interpretation of stimuli from the environment.
