Lecture 7: refers to any information being received by the sense organs (taste, smell, touch, sound, etc. ) and sent to the brain. What can i pick up from the environment around me: perception, refers to the interpretation of information received from sense organs. Studying sensation and perception in infants: you can"t ask infants what they sense, so we have to use clever techniques to study senses and perceptions for infants, preference technique (fantz, 1956) Habituation present baby with stimulus over and over that they get bored of it and stop looking at it. Dishabituation present slightly modified object and baby will start looking at the object again: operant conditioning technique. You want a baby to respond to stimulus x, so you present a reward with stimulus x. Then, you slightly alter stimulus x and see whether or not the baby responds.
