Document Summary

Lecture 2 - biological vs. environmental contributions to development. Behavioural genetics: genes and environment /work together and affect one another (produce what me become). Used to be a debate betw"een the two but not anymore: baby born with this difficult temperament doesn"t have to be that way it depends on the environment. It depends how the parents act, with nice interactions and make it less difficult. And opposite with more relaxed babies: epigenetic - we used to believe that our genes were set in stone. Now we realize that actually the environment can alter your gene expression. Height: e. g. , psychiatric disorders (caspi et al. , 2003) - did a longitudinal study and looked at depression. Not enough seretonin usually means a person is depressed. Looked at genotype and looked to see if a person had a lot of seretonin or not enough.
