PSYCH 2AA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Developmental Psychology, Puberty, Pupa
Document Summary
How do we change (or not) over time: age, lifestyle, puberty, schooling, marriage. What types of things do developmental psychologists study: emotional developmental, neurological development, physical development, intelligence, personality. Roles of nature and nurture in development: people who take on a nature approach are discontinuous, people who take on a nurture approach are continuous, to what extent do our genes and experiences determine us. Development is always jointly influence by heredity and environment: no aspect of child development is due exclusively to either heredity or environment, instead development is always shaped by both: nature and nurture interact. Children influence their own development: active-passive child issue. Passive view: corresponds to locke"s description of a child as a blank slate on which experience writes. Active view: corresponds to rousseau"s view of development as a natural unfolding that takes place within the child.
