First classified as anxiety disorder, but now dsm classifies as its own disorder. Body dismorphic disorder- thinking a part of ur body is really ugly. Male female ratio is 1:1 but in childhood ratio 3:1. Most common comorbid condition for ocd is depression, but their biological. A lot of ppl with ocd have depression. U r scared of something so u do something that will try to reduce ur anxiety, by particpiting in organized behavior, just so u wont be thinking about the fear in some kind of situation. Reduction of fear by that behavior is reinforcing, leading to repetive behavior. Cognitive: inability to get rid of thought gives u anxiety which then makes it even more difficult then u get more anxious , compulsive rituals distract u from that anxiety producing thought. Cognitive model cant explain where the problem originated ( why the problem arosei in the first place) same thing or behavioral model.
