PSYCH 2AP3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Parietal Lobe, White Matter, Prefrontal Cortex
Document Summary
Evoked response evoked by presentation of stimulus, latency how long after the stimulus is presented do we get the response o magnitude. Less right > left asymmetry in size of prefrontal cortex (right smaller: right prefrontal cortex is smaller than people without adhd. More cortical slow wave activity: under arousal, very common result. Weaker erp to stimuli: poor alerting lomoar cpsd| 2151316, evoked responses shown by individuals with adhd compared to those who don"t is much weaker. 90% with right cortical lesions have adhd. Low blood flow in caudate and frontal lobes (esp. white matter: hypo perfusion low blood flow, grey matter cells, neurons, white matter militated axons, white because of the fatty coating of myelin. High blood flow in primary sensory cortices (temporal, occipital lobes) Stimulants reduce flow in sensory cortices, increase flow in basal ganglia. Total brain volume reduction prefrontal cortex, caudate nucleus, amygdala, cerebellum: adhd individuals - total brain volume is smaller.
