Neurostrutural: damage to basal ganglia in ocd, caudate nucleus, ocd symptoms in sydenham"s chorea. Genetic: taylor, jang and asmundson (2010), heritability (proportion of some variance in a phenotype) of 50% for ocd symptoms, obsessing, ordering checking hoarding obsessing, remaining variance = non-shared environment. Antidepressants (higher doses for ocd than for depression): paxil (paroxetine) ssri, prozac (fluoxetine) ssri, zoloft (sertraline) ssri, anafranil (clomipramine) tricyclic snri * most preferred. Antipsychotic medications: only used as adjuncts to ssri therapy; not effective on their own. Flooding (exposure): compelled to wash hands because you have obsession you will have disease, so you would have individual sit with hands in dirt for some period of time. Response prevention: usually is combined with flooding, not letting them perform the response they wish to respond with (e. g. , ^ washing hands) Modeling: watching someone else do the feared behaviour, usually precursor to flooding/ prevention.
