Document Summary

Jung believed most people never achieved this, maslow believed the same thing. He says the bottom needs are de ciency motives, we lack things that we must have in order to be healthy humans (missing enough food etc) But when we talk about self-actualization, we are not talking de ciencies, we are ne. It is no longer needs, it is simply guides to our conduct that he calls be motives. Not something extrinsic that the organism neds for health, rather it is intrinsic growth of what is already in the organism, or what is the organism itself. The highest motive is to be unmotivated and non-striving, that is to behave purely expressively. Constant searching for things that can meet our current de ciency motives: we pay attention to those things that are relevant to meeting our needs. The few of us who get beyond this to self-actualization have a different way of interacting with the world.
