Ice cream sales increase with increasing temp, but higher ice cream sales do not increase crime rate, high temp does! Field observational studies: observe beh in natural setting (ie. in a store or bar, unobtrusive observation, no manipulations, no situational control, no control = no causal statements , no interference with subjects usual behaviour, ex. Failure to randomly assigned subjects to condition: ie. Differences in comfort of lab across conditions (one room is a confortable temp and the other is freezing reaction time is slower in the cold room: ie. Is the difference real from a mathematical perspective: ex. The emperor"s new clothes, binge drinking, ordering dessert (you want it but no one else at the table does ), i was just following orders during the holocaust.
