Social cognition: how we think about the world. Parallel (we do it while we do other tasks) Schemas, heuristics, and cognitive biases: controlled thinking. Sequential (we are only doing that one thing at that specific time) Think of it as a cold logical process. A lot of inhibitory or self-controlled processes. Intervention of the hot process which is automatic thinking. Involves emotion, memory, motivation (basic biological process type of motivations) Schema-relevant information is processed quicker than non-relevant info. Influence the information we attend to, think about, and retain. Categorize information acquisition selective attention selective interpretation. Ex: tourists don"t live here luggage must be lost offer directions. Salient concept at the forefront of one"s mind. 3 influences on accessibility: chronic accessibility from personal experience. This could be your career, family history or hobbies. When someone is telling you the are going on vacay, you as a beach lover will firstly ask if there is a beach where they are going.
